ARC – 1 Hour Kayak Rental at Berg River Dam, Franschhoek

The Berg River Dam is one of the most scenic stretches of water in the Cape Winelands, and exploring it by kayak is hard to beat. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned paddler, this is a straightforward, satisfying way to spend an hour out on the water.

Operated by Best Day Ever and Kayak Adventures at the ARC of Franschhoek, our stable, sit-on-top double kayaks are perfect for couples, friends, and families. All equipment is included in the rental, so you just pitch up, jump in, and paddle.

A basic ability to swim is recommended for this activity.

What to Expect

Arrive at the ARC of Franschhoek at the Berg River Dam and get kitted out with your double kayak, paddles, and personal flotation devices (PFDs). Your 1 hour rental gives you the total freedom to explore the dam at your own pace, with dramatic mountain backdrops in every direction.

Throughout your paddle, you’ll get magnificent views of the towering Wemmershoek Mountains, the dramatic Drakenstein Mountains, and the rugged peaks of the Du Toitskloof Mountains. On calm days, the water acts like a mirror, reflecting the peaks perfectly. You can paddle across the water to the sandy beach at Wolwekloof to relax on the shoreline, or venture down towards the scenic Berg River inflow where the river enters the reservoir.
